Team NewsLivingstone comes back to hurt Multan again as Karachi Kings claim second win over Sultans

March 4, 2019

Multan Sultans’ difficult Pakistan Super League season continued with a five-wicket defeat to Karachi Kings in Abu Dhabi.

Another meagre batting performance meant the Sultans could only post 118 for 7 in the first innings at the Zayed International Stadium, and Karachi eased to victory with four balls to spare.

Having lost the toss, Multan struggled for quick runs at the top of the order. Umar Siddiq and Johnson Charles were both skittled out cheaply, while James Vince made a laboured 16 from 26 deliveries.

Shoaib Malik added a run-a-ball 26 and Hammad Azam hit the innings’ top individual score of 29 but when he fell, trapped lbw by Usman Shinwari, any chance of a substantial total was lost.

Shinwari finished with impressive bowling figures of 4-15 from his four overs, while Umer Khan took 3-22. Sultans simply did not have enough on the board.

Liam Livingstone made sure the chase was a comfortable one for Karachi, scoring his second half-century in two games against Multan this season and ending unbeaten on 53 from 42 balls.

Mohammad Abbas bowled with guile to record economic figures of 2-14 and Mohammad Ilyas claimed three wickets but the task was too much for the Sultans.
